Expeditionary Marine Lt. JD Rawlings is nearly as battered and hastily patched as the ship he is assigned to, the Navy frigate Rontar. Scars of recent repair are disturbingly visible on both. But that is not the worst of it, by far.
Lt. Rawlings discovered betrayal, an ambush by the alien Shaquaree, but his method of discovery is seen by many survivors as the catalyst which precipitated the battle. After escaping a betrayal and rigged trial on Rondislaus, the Marines offer Del a contract to find out which crime cartel is using restricted military technology. They can’t be involved with investigating without drawing attention to themselves and their tech.
When Del digs down to the culprit cartel, he also uncovers a conspiracy of rogue Marines and aliens over and above the ruthless cartel and the mercenary assassin they use to resolve their issues. When the rogue Marines intervene, Del must somehow defeat the cartel and the Marines, and do whatever needs to be done about the aliens, or one of those three groups will wind up dominating the sector.
SELEK
Expeditionary Marine Trooper Tom Drake is just an ordinary guy, other than having been held a virtual prisoner on Selek by the Irini people for five years before being rescued by the Marines. Then he finds out he has advanced telekinesis which reveals under ‘life-threatening’ circumstances.
Once that can of worms is opened and he learns conscious control of his powers, Tom finds himself battling telepathic aliens back at Selek, and they want to dominate and control any race with a brain! On the forefront, Tom must lead the effort to defeat the aliens or face the enslavement and possible extinction of humanity, not to mention the other alien races being oppressed.
